Prom Guy is off to the prom. Instead of the traditional corsage, he decides to bring his date a sewing machine to replace her broken one. Unfortunately, his only car won’t start, so he asks the friendly UPS driver for a lift. They drive along this road/sidewalk thing when they realize they miss their turn. Guy asks girl to the prom.
Girl agrees. Buys prom dress.
Discovers prom dress is too long. Needs to sew the hem.
Calls guy, asks if he can come get her early, and bring his mom’s portable sewing machine, so she can sew up the hem.
They both live just a few blocks from the high school, so he doesn’t drive, he walks.
UPS guy sees guy in tuxedo carrying little sewing machine and drives off the road into the river.

There. Mystery solved!
