    i wonder what the story was behind this picture…
    its the famous WTF picture of all time

  3. Steve D says:

    Isn’t this on a antimotivational poster? I wish I could remember the caption…

  4. lorien1973 says:

    Mitaclorians won’t fish themselves!

  5. sandraberry says:

    Well the pitcher is a brita filtration type. He’s trying to convert salt water to drinking water. But the funny part is that darth vader can’t drink water. Or can he? And then the picture was overanalyzed and no longer funny. Thanks for making me think Solway.

  6. Allison says:

    It makes perfect sense. This is Lord Helmet from Spaceballs after they crawled out of Mega Maid’s nose. He’s getting fresh water for him, Skroob, and Sanders.
    And yes, Helmet can drink water. It goes throguh the vent holes in the front of his helmet, and makes a delightful little bubbling sound. :)

  7. Lea says:

    ooooookaaaaaay. WTFed.

  8. lolo says:

    AHAHAHAA

    Somehow, the thing I love most about this picture is that Vader is pouring from a filtered jug.

  9. Lincolns_Beard says:

    Ah, good, someone found a higher res picture. I sent this one in a while ago, but it was lowish rez, and it had the inspirational poster border and text.

  10. kento says:

    is he using the Force? if not, he should.

  11. 5010 says:

    kento :is he using the Force? if not, he should.

    Does forcing water through a filter count?

  12. Pablo5 says:

    I think Darth Vader is causing global warming by warming the sea water in a tea kettle. What a bastard !!! :/

  13. 21skulls says:

    Fun times………i’m there.

  14. Chad Vader says:

    I find your lack of filters disturbing!

  15. blonde moment says:

    @Pablo5
    umm there is no tea kettle…you u need to look again

  16. master baiter says:

    That’s a blender, not a kettle. Now, what is he blending? Water and ermmm,… something else? Any ideas?

  17. NR says:

    The Force may be strong with this one, but the intelligence sure is not.

  18. Miss Trauma says:

    @master baiter
    not a blender, brita water filtration pitcher

  19. gwenhwyfaer says:

    And the moral of the story is… if you’re going to hold your Star Wars conventions at a coastal resort, do make sure you price your mineral water remotely realistically…

  20. Jocelyn says:

    Chad Vader must be restocking the bottled water.

  21. Starlogic says:

    I actually know the guy who took this picture, It was fo an art project, I actually have a copy of this picture.

  22. NoSwitchBacksNoMercy says:

    @master baiter
    You scrufy nerf-herder. Thats a water filter, an electric blender in water would produce bad results

  23. blonde moment says:

    omg i try to say its not a kettle and a guy proves me wrong by saying its something completely wrong…wow…fail buddy…

  24. Dreamer says:

    You know, funnily enough this was explained to me yesterday during a seminar (at least I assume the artist up the front knew what he was talking about). He was pretty specific about the name of the person and the location, but then again maybe he just felt the picture illustrated his point and made up a story to give it weight.

    He explained it as a performance piece about futility, along the line of what Sandraberry mentioned. The futility of filtering the Black Sea with a single brita filter jug, he didn’t say anything about what Darth Vader had to do with it though… so who knows how that ties in. I’m not an artist so I’m not going to bother analysing that part ^^

  25. Naktarr says:

    I’m wondering now, can those Brita water filter jugs actually filter sea water free of all salts?
    That would be cool – I’d go and try, but the only Brita Filter I have at hand is not mine, and no doubt even if it did filter out all the salt, it would kill the filter thing inside I think XD

  26. bunnies2 says:

    darth would get a stomachache from that.. . if he still has one;

  27. Daniel says:

    @25: I imagine it could, but if you worked it that hard it probably wouldn’t last very long. The filters get worn out in time because they have to absorb all the stuff that doesn’t go through.

  28. Black Label says:

    @Naktarr
    Brita filters use charcoal to filter the water, gets a lot of stuff but not Na+ or Cl-. If it did potable water would be as easy as running sea water (got a lot of that) through charcoal (got a lot of that too). Make some salt water and put it through your friend’s brita, it won’t hurt it. Sorry for talking serious.

  29. Naktarr says:

    @Black Label
    Thanks ^^ I wasn’t sure what kind of filter it was, there is one type of stone filter that removes salts I know that – okay that’s enough of that discussion!

    I hope they could get all the salt marks out of Vader’s outfit, especially if the gloves were leather.

  30. coolguy says:

    I think symbolically the water is there to represent our fresh water reserves, unlimited amounts of it. Darth Vader represents commercial enterprise, taking from this vast resources, putting it through a tiny filter and then selling it back to us in a little tiny bottle. It is meant to summon up the bottled water industry.

  31. stcukinthedesert says:

    That’s Jeff Vader, it is! He’s having the penne al arabia. He does NOT need a tray.

  32. Chet says:

    Darth Vader relaxes at the Death Spa

  33. DrCherry says:

    That could be a lake…

  34. Arny moose says:

    @DrCherry
    No, its deffinately Darth Vader. I don’t even know if there is a Darth Lake…

  35. hollyface says:

    its the artist DANIEL BOZHKOV (sp?).

  36. wolfor says:

    Just try to get the salt stains out of the cape afterward.

  37. Lubyben says:

    @stcukinthedesert
    Where these filters cleaned in an ocean? why with the power of the death star do we not have a filter that is clean!

  38. katy says:

    http://www.andrewkreps.com/bozhkov.html
    More of Bozhkov’s work here (Larry King crop pattern, etc.)

  39. bhomer2 says:

    what are you talking about? this makes perfect sense!

  40. Mandy says:

    Absolutely anything done in a Darth Vader costume is hilarious.

    ANYTHING.

  41. jude says:

    he can kill you without a tray!
    (no wonder they’re all wet, they were dried in the ocean, not a rain forest!)

  42. Stevie w says:

    “Darth Vader Tries to Clean the Black Sea With Brita Filter” 2000
    C-print mounted on aluminum, Ed. of 5
    50 X 35 1/2 inches

    This actually makes more sense than the usual flecks-of-paint-thrown-at-a-canvas nonsense.

  43. Dingodiler says:

    Luke, join the sparkling side of the Force!

  44. Dingodiler says:

    I’ll never join you!

    LOL, Luke Stillwater!

  45. amanda says:

    actually this foto makes perfect sense.awesome

  46. Kitty says:

    If anyone heard the origins of this DIRECTLY from the artist, do you remember his name? I heard a vague rumor that it was at least partially the fault of one Jason Hoelsher. Can anyone else confirm this for me? If so…I had him as a professor once and this photo explains so very much XP

  47. Supuhstar says:

  50. lmaobucket says:

    would that be drinkable IRL? lol

  51. CheezburgerFanatic says:

    It’s been hard on poor Darth Vader ever since the Galactic Empire fell.
