Blithely ignoring a pair of robot legs pushing a shopping cart? Sure, I might do that. Blithely ignoring a pair of FLAMING robot legs pushing a shopping cart? No, I think I’d stop and pay attention at that point.
I’ve seen this before. The story behind it was a contest to make something to have technology help the homeless. This guy decided that what the homeless needed was a robot to push their carts for them, and he built it. The fire wasn’t intended. I believe there’s more footage out there, too. I wish I could remember where I first saw it, though.
To me, the most baffling part is that he thought this was exactly what the world needed.

After Houdini’s magic trick of cutting his female assistants in half, all of the women were forced to find a new line of work. Sally is pictures in the video above, and in the link below, http://www.ripleys.com/ask-the-vault.php
i was going to make a snarky comment on how, unless you’re in a shopping mart’s parking lot, pushing a shopping cart renders anything below worthy of giving a second glance…
Then i read the reason it was made, and applauded.
You know, I went to the University of Pittsburgh, and, considering how close Pitt is to Carnegie Mellon University, I’m frankly surprised I didn’t see more flaming robot legs.
I think this is fake? I know it’s possible to make these, but they look too real from the thigh to the foot. I think this is a very cleverly edited video. Besides, they don’t take the same types of steps every time. I doubt a robot would be programmed to walk differently each step.
I looked it up, and I can only find short excerpts on it. I don’t know. I just don’t think it’s real. Especially since everyone is barely reacting. At my university, the Engineers always do random shit like this. We are used to it. BUT we always stop, take pictures, stare, etc. I can’t imagine people seeing this (even if they were seeing it for the 100th time) and just walking away.
Real? Probably…the difference in strides is easy to explain with low-tolerance build…stride just happens where the foot hits.
Funny? Hell ya!
Funnier? with torso and arms, but no head.
i can’t decide what has more wtf-itude… the legs, the fact that they’re pushing a shopping cart, the fact that they’re on FIRE, or the fact that no one seems to be paying any attention to them.
That would be such a kickass Halloween prop if they modded it…. creepier. I dunno. But still, there’s something unsettling about a free-roaming pair of legs pushing a shopping cart.
What I find amusing is that the legs are clothed with jeans and trainers.
And of course, that they’re on fire.
I’ve watched this about thirty or so times and it still makes me chuckle (:
That new feature has just been installed- it’s a new air-conditioner that smells like burning. Yes, it’s a prototype model-it’s supposed to be on fire.
The legs aren’t pushing the cart, the cart is pulling the legs along. I reckon the cart is battery powered and controlled remotely, and as it goes forward a system of cables pulls each leg up at the knee, giving the illusion of walking.
are they on fire on purpose?!
no, he lied…
Redefining silly walk.

When terminators go topless and become bums
No, that was the invisibleman, topless, with indegestion.
Looks like engine set the pants on fire, but really, the strangest thing is people ignoring it. O.o; Maybe the students were used to seeing it?
If I had seen that, I would have assumed I was on some terrible drug.
@TheWhatNow?
I’m with you on that. How the hell do you not stare at that??
Thats like microdots gone WAAYY bad.
@tigress170
They are students so they probably can’t tell if its reality or if they’re still tripping!
Either that or he’s just eaten the worlds hottest chilli-dog ever.
*burp…booooom*
That is one dedicated spontaneously combusted homeless man
lol

This video is amazing! Absolutely made my day!
Gets even better when you read the explanation of it!

Oh art is so funny!
First thought…Oh! Hot pants! (yes, I’m that old)
Second thought…cripes, now my kid’s gonna want to build this.
Flaming robot legs both push the carts for the homeless AND provide a fire to keep warm!
Seriously. Now that I know the story behind this, why on earth would somebody think this invention would be helpful?
That is scary. I would have probably started crying haha.
But now that I know what the real story behind it is I think it’s kind of funny.
If thats the legs… I don’t wanna see the torso
@Furburt
if i had seen that, i would have assumed i was on some WONDERFUL drug.
That’s how Kriss Angel cuts people in half and make it look like the legs are still alive.
LOL @ anything kriss angel. the effeminate long island accent with a lisp. what a bad-ass!
Wow, no one stops to look in general or when flames start shooting out of it!
Those are the wrong trousers! Gromit, you’ve got the wrong trousers!!!
You know you’ve lost your touch when you can’t even impress anybody with your walking, cart-pushing, flaming pants.
What’s a guy gotta do to get some applause, people?
How about a fire extinguisher?
))anyone?((

I’m so glad I was mildly buzzed while watching this.
robo-hobo?
Perfect! LOL!
this is so old, lurk moar.

You fail…

Somebody wanted Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers, to come to life. well that what it reminded me of

By coincidence, watching this while listening to ‘Return of the Machines’ (Oforia, TimeLock remix)… lol
*NOW* do you understand why we have to remove the head *and* destroy the brain?
That new feature has just been installed- it’s a new air-conditioner that smells like burning. Yes, it’s a prototype model-it’s supposed to be on fire.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
I believe having to push their own cart is the least of their troubles.
The legs aren’t pushing the cart, the cart is pulling the legs along. I reckon the cart is battery powered and controlled remotely, and as it goes forward a system of cables pulls each leg up at the knee, giving the illusion of walking.
STOP IGNORING ME.
“It’s the wrong trousers, Grommit! The wrong trousers!”
it seems to be having trouble walking.
liar liar…
The designer of those legs went on to work for Toyota.
Oh wow, thank you science we really needed one of those >:|
what’s funny is that people that pass in front of the camera dont respond to what is goung on behind them
