My absolute favorite bit is the little Roman-mohawk topping on the guy’s helmet. (Second favorite is the chariot.)
For photoshopp-claimers, Google produced this: “Rome celebrated its 2762nd birthday in style with a modern Roman chariot race in the ancient Circus Maximus, albeit with bicycles instead of horses” and “The competitors had to race three laps around the old Circus Maximus.” Which is actually kinda cool

The Circus Maximus is inside the city and there is no grass or gravel path around it. Plus, the guys right hand on the handlebar looks … odd.
Not saying it is or isn’t Photoshopped, but it wouldn’t be in Rome.

Yeah, I don’t recall seeing any mountain bikes in the Tour.
The hands are alright, the bars are somewhat bent. The other bike’s handlebars are turned downwards for some reason, but the hands are all there. We’ve built weirder bikes than this just for street riding, let alone parades, at my dads old bike shop.
No wonder Lance Armstrong just finished third.

The Circus Maximus typically sports lots of grass in the spring and summer, and they might well have laid down patches of gravel for such an event.
Plenty more photos of the event can be found here, and it sure looks like the Circus Maxiumus to me, in that it’s a long grassy pit surrounded by streets, although none of the shots show the fragmentary ruins around the edges.
