Constantinople is not gone. It just had it’s name changed to Instabul after 1453…
major wtf?
a cheap remix of a primus song with crapy video
Yeah, this is the Residents. And pretty mild for those guys…
This is just disgusting…
It’s the Residents. Primus covered the Residents song. Stop posting weird art on this site. It doesn’t count as WTF, it’s art.
Primus? You’re kidding, right? This is the original by the Residents that Primus covered.
This is a clip by The Residents, an experimental art-rock band. The Residents are cool because they have never revealed the true identities of the band members; always wearing masks and costumes and never giving media interviews!
Please don’t use Viddler. The visuals always run really slow and choppy for me.
That being said, this is rather confusing. I’m pretty sure I don’t want to know any of the details.
Is it sad that the only thing I thought of through that whole thing was “Damn, that guy’s penis was tiny”?
@dude
Dude, now you are just ignorant. This song is from The Residents album Duck Stab, which was made 1979. Long before Primus was born. It’s the other way round, idiot.
Uups, 1978.
Omg I thought this was gonna have something to do with They Might Be Giants (they covered a song called istanbul, not constantinople) but then I realized this is the Residents, the band they ripped off their early stuff from! God I love the Residents.
Art may be art, but sometimes art, especially art, is a real wtf.
You people know nothing. Glen Miller and his orchestra were on the top of the hit parade with this song back in 1941.
I love the Residents!
that was really disturbing…
I feel the falling naked man is an interpritation to the vulnerability within us all. :3 I thoroughly believe that inturpritation is your own, soooo… wtf? I say yes!
Did the residents make the video? or did someone just use their music?
Ehm, 1930, actually. In 1930 the Turks officially adopted the name Istanbul.
Yay the Residents!!!
It’s “oops,” not “uups.” Calling someone else an ignorant idiot, then showing your own ignorance spells “failure.”
I LOVE it!
Damn, now I have the version by TMBG going through my head. Thanks a lot, pictureisunlrelated.
Looks like someone attempted a live-action version of Monty Python animation.
Glen Miller no recordy.

@Surabaya_Johnny
pretty sure TISM did the same thing, also makes better music
Hell yes Residents.
I haven’t heard The Residents in years, thank you!
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it’s Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
-They Might Be Giants
so what happens when he GETS THERE!!?? I want to know…I want to hear the whole song…
Link for the whole video is on my nick.
he caught him in the end yay…lol…I kinda like it, thanks jti
it’s really kinda catchy…
@Surabaya_Johnny
That’s true for Daft Punk too. But at least they do something that still resembles music you actually wanna hear. That stuff up there is no art. It is just bad music. If you do only crap, call yourself an “art band”, and suddenly, it’s OK. Also suddenly, wannabe-cool people listen to it, so they can act as if they were something better, while everyone laughs at them being so pathetic.
There is no reason it can’t be both.
I can’t see video at work, but from the title I thought of the TMBG song also. Many people may not know that the old cartoon Tiny Toons did videos for two of TMBG’s songs- Istanbul was one of them (the other one was Particle Man). Check it out:
Is it weird that I am in love with this song? :/
I don’t care if it’s Resident, Primus, or the garage band across the street. I’m instead going to quote TMBG. I once tortured my boss with the album Flood. ^^
“Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople.
So if you’ve a date in Constantinople
She’ll be waiting in Istanbul.”
This video is from the Vigeland sculpture park in Oslo, Norway.
Here I come Constantinople
Here I come Constantinople
I am coming Constantinople
Here I come
All the leaves are off of the oak and
All of the sheep have followed the spoken
Word. I’m coming Constantinople
Here I come
So I stand out in the open
All my friends are with you I hope and
pray. I’m coming Constantinople
Here I come.
Here I come Constantinople
Here I come Constantinople
I am coming Constantinople
Here I come
@Icky Stamps
Art with a capital F.
If it makes you go, “whoa, WTF?!” then IMHO it counts as a WTF, regardless of what it actually is.
@Minagiv
I don’t think that’s odd at all. I myself was wondering how it was the only body part that wasn’t moving.
Weird, but not Crispin Glover weird.
Art does not get a pass in the wtf department by the way…
I knew it was The Residents the second it started.
@Surabaya_Johnny
I’d keep my face covered too, if I was them.
@Icky Stamps
Dude, if you ever met “weird art” (cringe) artists, you’d know “weird art” is for wtf value and shock value to make people THINK and FEEL. Contrary to popular belief impressionist, surrealist and expressionist pieces are not really for pompus prats to hold their chins in front of, go “hmmmm” and come up with pretentious ideas.
That’s all well and good for stuff that’s actually pretentious artist bullshit, but as a long-time fan of the Residents – a band that has existed for 40 years, recorded over 60 albums, has invented new mediums of artistic expression, has NEVER revealed their identity (although it’s quite clear who they are if you’re an attentive fan), has ALWAYS existed on their own independent label and continues to come up with and produce intriguing, thought provoking and often frighteningly original ideas – perhaps you should have looked into some of the rest of their material before making such an obviously ill-informed statement.
Granted, the Residents aren’t for everyone, but calling a band that is essentially one of the largest luminary monuments in the avant-garde scene of the last half a fucking century “crap” is pretty damned retarded regardless of whether or not you like their music. You’re talking about a band that practically invented music video, pioneered CD-ROM and special feature content for multiple releases, have developed several live performance innovations, all while remaining independent, underground and a virtual non-entity since the 60′s.
Damn, I really didn’t want to go on an extended rant here, but that statement is so ignorant, I couldn’t resist.
Now back to your regularly scheduled bickering.
M.
Oh, not to mention they have permanent exhibitions in the Museum of Modern Arts on BOTH fucking coasts.
What did you do this last half century?
M.
whoa, some o you guys are FAR too analytical, this entire ites is just for some laughs, jus sit back and enjoy the WTF-ittude
The Residents’ album “Duck Stab / Buster & Glen” (from whence this song originated) is one of the true all-time great albums of really weird music.
Sigh.
If I were you I wouldn’t want to know more…
@dude
that’s the residents, constantinople.it was released in 1978. i absolutely love primus, but the residents came first. it’s “crappiness” was very cutting edge for the time.
@R Car
of course!!!
I’m dissapointed in the lack of genitals in this picture.
Nice to see a new group of people being exposed to the Residents; they’ve brought me much joy (and WTF) over the past twenty years. My fondness for them is in no small part due to two of the three Residents being from my obscure neck of the woods in north Louisiana. Actually, the “culture” there goes a long way to explaining the Residents’ bizarreness.
Some here have questioned whether the Res made this vid or if someone used their music; the Residents produce all their own media. They’ve produced literally scores of albums, videos, and multimedia projects since 1974, even have their own video game. Their work is always provocative and always strange. Check it out. http://www.residents.com/
@dude
Actually this is from the original, primus made a cover of it.
i think my brain just melted a little bit…
Christ I am SO SICK OF IDIOTS who like their stupid derivative “groove music” and can’t listen to something like MAGMA or The Residents and enjoy difficult listening. Screw your pushbutton computer wussy crap and look into some REAL esoteric recording processes you stupid weenies!
yeah, this site just went way down in my estimation for putting up a residents’ video with a ‘wtf’. that’s their whole point. also the song is a standard from the ’20s and has been covered by many artists over the years. but you guys should google the residents and learn you something about wtf.
i didn’t know the Residents did a cover of this…that’s cool
The Residents didn’t do a COVER of anything, dude, read the previous comments…
Actually the Residents made whole albums full of covers.
The Residents do experimental music. Sometimes the experiment fails, in my humble opinion. But Constantinople is an early favorite both musically and lyrically. It’s a little jab at the idea of an afterlife.
