  1. Scorpion says:

Well, I know what it looks like, but what is it, really?

    • russ says:

Its a balistics chamber. Like the one you would see on CSI, only larger because of the size of the round it is designed to stop. The tank fires a round into the chamber, inside the chamber is a baffel system that stops the bullet and disburses the gasses. The round can then be recovered and inspected to determine if there are imperfectoins in the rifleing characteristics of the gun. That is a Paladin tank which is an artilary gun, (155 mm bullet and a 40 mile effective range) there is no reason to silence an artilary gun, because the target is so far away that they wont hear the blast anyway.

  2. lep says:

    ah yes… a silencer for a tank! w00t

  3. Alfie Bronx says:

What is it expecting ??? a bigger bullet ?

  4. Pocket says:

    Im guessing a giant silencer?

  5. The bigger the gun, the bigger the silencer.

  6. Doppy says:

    D..ck Cannon!!

  7. The Stray says:

Aye its a giant silencer IIRC located in germany. I wish they would get one for Aberdeen Proving Grounds, I can hear them shooting stuff off all times of day.

  8. amydpp says:

This is a soviet made tank gun silencer at a testing range. While I can see why it would be very useful, I don’t think it’s portable enough for the battlefield.

    • Outback Jon says:

So why is a US made M109 Paladin using it?

      • mikey says:

germany has no army. however, the united states maintains a few bases on german soil

        • Code says:

That makes me wonder with what kind of ‘army’ i served my compulsory military service and why they were equipped with H&K G36es ;-)
No, seriously, Germany definitly has an army, the “Bundeswehr”, and each male German must serve nine month either in compulsory military or alternative service. Of course ‘real’ deployments (for example in Afghanistan) are only done by regular soldier rather then conscripts.

      • John says:

Um, that is NOT an M109A6 Paladin, but rather an M109A3G M155SP howitzer. The Paladin is the designation used for the A6 version, and the previous versions had no nickname applied to them. That howitzer model is about 20 years old, and does not have NEAR the capability that the Paladin does. A single A6 paladin could wipe out a whole battalion (12 guns) of these ancient machines, before the Germans could even emplace, boresight, and get safed. And yes, I do know what I am talking about, spent 4.5 years at Fort Sill in the very first Paladin battalion 2/5 FA, 212th Field Artillery battalion.

We do NOT give our newest tech to anyone else, the Paladin has basically, in laymen’s terms, a computer with a modem that runs over a dedicated radio instead of telephone lines, to get data from the Fire Direction Control (FDC)section. A couple buttons pressed, and this thing aims itself. Wonderful tech.

        • Rommel says:

“We do NOT give our newest tech to anyone else” – well, thx, just keep it. German Army is nowadays equipped with the PZH 2000. Go Figure.

        • fiiiiiiiuuuuuuuuuuuuBOOOOM says:

German Army doesnt use the m109 anymore since early 2007.

After the full batch of PzH2000 got in service, theyre not needed anymore.

        • Rene says:

The U.S. GIVES their newest technology to other countries. E.G. the F35 is being developed together with some European Countries which will afterwards order some of these birds.

The M109 where bought by the german Bundeswehr centuries ago and today it has the PanzerHaubitze 2000 which would mess with any Paladin version.

The M1A1 main gun is produced by Rheinmetall, Germany, btw.

How can one believe that Germany has no Army?!?

          • Martin says:

U.S GIVES the latest tech to other countries? Haha, are you seriously thinking that? Yhe U.S army can’t do advanced stuff on their own anymore. They have to have help as high tech does not exist in the U.S. Marine – England, Norway, China. Army – Germany, Sweden, China. Aviation – Germany, France, Sweden, Norway. If you guys were to try on your own it would be a sad useless modification of some old crap. Bulky, overweight and overpriced.

        • russ says:

I posted at the top that it was a paladin, and I was mistaken. As john pointed out the paladin upgrade is a computer system. (amongst other important upgrades). However; germany is not the only place in the world to have one of these devices I saw them at ft hood whilst I was stationed there.

    • Vectoor says:

I’m thinking they use the silencer for test so that it wont disturb people living nearby…

      • russ says:

In the military we dont care about bothering the civilians that live around post. (not with training excercises anyway) If they dont want to hear the tank fire they can move the hell away from the base.

  9. jrharbort says:

Where is your god now? Hopefully not up there, or he’s screwed.

  10. Batbat says:

Don’t know what it is, but I WANT ONE.

  11. aaa says:

All this work just to have more fun when they say : “In your face”

  12. borkmadjai says:

this is the silencer for the test

    • Avis says:

I was just going to ask why a cannon would need a silencer.
Wait, why does a cannon need a silencer?

      • tonicboy says:

So you don’t make everyone deaf firing test shots all day long.

      • Jimmy says:

They use this just went testing and practice to reduce the noise propagation, even more went it is cloudy, went they are close from residential neighbor.

        • russ says:

There are no civilians living close to an artilary training exercise fireing area. It would be dangerous. These ranges are miles and miles from anywhere important. That is why Fort Hood and Fort Sill are 2 of the largest military posts in the world. Its not because of the inhabited areas of the post, its because of the range areas. They are HUGE!!!!! lol.

  13. yesyes says:

I like the way it’s been camouflaged. It’s virtually invisible…

  14. Pleple says:

I always wondered if this huge frakin’ silencer was a fake or not… some sources claim it’s real, other not…

  15. bill says:

It’s funny because it looks like a giant wang

  16. Manley says:

It’s an AS90 155mm field howitzer with a silencer attached.

It is a British gun although the daft nob-shaped silencer is all of US design.

  17. Wartoa says:

This is the US military’s attempt at the mario brothers cannon. With this new technology moving troops would be extremely easier. So far testing has not gone as well as expected. Other Mario technologies being worked on include fire flowers and painting teleportation have had similar success stories.

  18. magic says:

    Behold… BAZOOKA COCK

  19. Bob says:

    Well, at least they’re using protection . . .

  20. Solway says:

    is the camouflage really necessary?

  21. Molly says:

  23. Bucky says:

Amidst slumping ticket sales, Cirque de Soleil decides it’s time to cannon-launch an acrobat. Into orbit.

  24. pyrit says:

So now we say, “Woo baby you are built like a tank…-silencer.”

  25. Gabriel says:

A whole new meaning to cumming like a cannon.

  26. moodforaday says:

you’d think the whole “tanks shoot exploding shells” thing would kind of defeat the purpose of a silencer.

  27. kiieru says:

When your gun just isn’t big enough…

  28. Clyde says:

So does it go BOING instead of BOOM?

  29. mopho says:

  32. Random Dude says:

I get e-mails trying to sell me these things all the time. They never work…

  33. Blade says:

    Docking?

  34. AP says:

Is nobody else all that concerned that this thing could rollback and squash the crap outta that tank? How ironic would that be then, the silencer making a shit ton of noise.

It may be secured ofc, but from this angle, one can only assume.

  35. Human Zoologist says:

Sir, I don’t think the tank will lift it…

  36. Mack says:

This is called a Haubitzenschalldaempfer… I translated it and it came out as meaning “Howitzer shell damper”. If this is correct, I would assume it is a chamber that dampens the sound and/or measures the muzzle velocity.

  37. Terakada Otsuu says:

It’s the Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon! It exists! Hey, it’s pretty good….

  38. Sparticus says:

Ah, yes, a Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Canon. Must be a more compact model, usually the barrel’s a bit longer.

  39. Rocky Lolo says:

While a silencer is cool and all….. how does one aim, when its fixed to the ground?

  40. viktor says:

    toys for boys?

  41. klutzo says:

That’ll give the enemy a good pounding.

  42. beru says:

It’s a Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon!!! konoyarou!

  43. Captain Kastura says:

Hey isn’t this the Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon? This mega cannon was used to put down riots during the nation wide shortage of nmaibo…yeah this is really perfect.

  44. kingdan85 says:

Is it a clearing barrel for a tank?

  45. Specialagent08 says:

Very Nice they could do with a few of these in iraq

  46. e cig says:

Interesting cannon… Wonder who thought this one up?

  47. axel410 says:

  49. Daniel says:

By the way: Germany has an army!

  50. Groove Queen says:

Two balls! ! What is that? It looks just like an enormous…

  51. Metalflame says:

His penis must be really small to need that much compensation,
I mean he already has a tank.

  52. It looks like something that costs lots of money

  53. mark165 says:

isnt it some kind of crash test lab for ammo ? :-)

  54. matt says:

I can’t see it being particularly effective on the battlefield, I mean it’s not exactly portable is it?

  55. killwithme says:

    ZOMFG! Artillery Silencer!

  56. ringtonepack says:

So the first thing that came into your mind was Google?

  60. mrcommenter says:

So the first thing that came into your mind was Google?

  61. BobCat says:

    RE: Don’t ask, Don’t Tell

they _are_ loading it from the back

  62. Diesel says:

sooo…nobody seems to notice that the barrel doesn’t connect to the giant chamber and that’s it’s just pointed at the hole? As mentioned at the top of the comments, it’s a ballistics test chamber. A silencer would be pointless and absurd to use in the field. The point of artillery is not to be stealthy and there is no tactical advantage to being quiet when you’re 20 miles or more away from the target. Jesus just look at the picture before going on and on about it being a silencer. And EVERYTHING in the military (any country) is painted some sort of camo. It’s the military after all.

  63. roflwaffleawesomepossum says:

This tank is clearly compensating for something…

  64. Sankosa says:

    tank silencer

  65. Gintoki says:
