Welcome to the wide world of languages that aren’t English. This is a word in at least two of the Nordic languages (Danish and Swedish) which means End Sprint (literal translation) and is normally used to describe shopping offers which are ending. But yup, even we are aware of the reaction people who do not speak our language have when they see it in shops
“Slut” is like “schluss” in german (where it’s “Schlussverkauf”). So it means everything seen here: http://dict.leo.org/ende?search=schluss
Not exactly “end”, but very close.
i’d say ‘finishing sprint’ (of the reå, swedish for sale). also, yah, it’s just the two. norwegian has a second t in the end of the word. in order to avoid silly jokes from english speakers D:
It’s really REA, short for “realisation”, meaning “on sale” or “discount”. But this is from a shop in Sweden called Åhlens, so they were a bit “creative” and changed the last A to an Å, using Åhlens logotype. “Slut-spurt” is indeed “Finishing Sprint.”
In German there’s the expression “Endspurt” which also means final sprint, but is usually applied to sports not sales. Anyways, it didn’t really surprise me to see that sign as I was in Sweden, guess I just didn’t try pronouncing it in English.
If it said “slut” it’s not norwegian… Then it would have been “slutt”!! The swedes say “slut” but I’m not shure about the danes…. “Bra” means good in all three countries, and “over” means over….
Fellow Denmarkian (or just Scandinavian)! YAY!
And indeed – “slut” means “end” – that’s also what we see at the end of movies and books.
“Slut Spurt” are also sometimes used to refer to “going out of business sales”.
Danish is indeed a wonderful language – we have words that mean something totally different than they do in English, like:
Fart = Danish word for “speed” (or “i fart” = “in use”. Really,)
Mad = Danish word for “food”.
Killing = Danish word for “Kitten”.
Far = Danish word for “dad”.
Also, “Stig” is a common name. Top Gear fans will recognize that name.
Heh, the company name is “Åhléns” and slutspurt is finalsprint. hehe I hav never thought of it that way xD I do remember this sign from the store and when they have this sale or “rea” as we say in sweden (rea means reducerat=reduced) they put the sign every where xD for example in busstops.
Yeah, there’s not really much wtf to this… There are plenty of sites posting retarded signs from all around that just happen to (almost) mean something different — and sometimes dirty — in English. Surprise! Languages aren’t the same all over! ZOMG!!!1!oneone
Please, pictureisunrelated.com, don’t turn into another one of those retarded sites.
As already mentioned, slut means “end” or “finishing”.
I have a funny story regarding that. In High School, I lived with a transfer student from America. One day, he was invited to dinner at my grandparents, and they had prepared a powerpoint to show some pictures to him. The last slide was a black slide with “SLUT” in all caps. Needless to say, he cracked up, the grandparents being oblivious.
Fast forward, in one of his presentations, he ended up using that as the last slide in his (english) presentation. His teacher praised him for using a local word, while all his class mates were in awe of him using the word in school
guys, i’m sorry to disappoint you all but there is nothing wrong with this picture. it’s a danish store and “slut spurt” in danish means “final sprint” which is actually just a way of saying that the wares they are selling under that sign has got-to-go prices on them. really simple. i know, cause i’m danish and if you still don’t believe me, try using google translator or something and let it say danish>english.
Everyone already knows this, but come on – it’d be funny to find a sign saying the equivalent of “WHORE” just about anywhere, even if you know it meant something else in another language.
Surprised nobody has offered the obvious English translation of “slut spurt”: Clearance. Items that are being sold at low prices to clear room for more inventory.
Sporadic period of heightened sexual activity conducted by a girl who fluctuates between abstinence and sluttiness. This girl may often imply that she is a virgin when she is dormant.
Mike: Oh my God, did you hear that Kelsey just got it on with five guys this week?
John: Yeah, sounds like she’s in the midst of a slut spurt.”
Also, ‘caught’ is prenounced in exactly the same way as the Norwegian word ‘kåt’ which means ‘horny’. That’s given more than one kid a giggle in English class.
She’ll spurt your slut

and Reå is sale. If I saw that sign I’d go runnin’ to find the good deals.
… -Spurt-

My personal favorite was a subtitle I saw in a movie once: “Bra. Slut.” (I’m pretty sure the original English was “Over and out.”)
Assuming that was a norwegian film, the translation was closest to “Good. Out”
They do have a word “over” but i cba googling it.
If it said “slut” it’s not norwegian… Then it would have been “slutt”!! The swedes say “slut” but I’m not shure about the danes…. “Bra” means good in all three countries, and “over” means over….
Nope.. bra is good in swedish and norwegian.. in danish it’s godt
end = slut in danish.
another funny sweidsh word is “infart”, wich means entry

Psht, my Swedish boyfriend still laughs when I try to tell him about Pitt the Younger.
and you made me laugh when u wrote pitt
It could also be norwegian, but we have no stors called Reå:)
And it’s funnty because Swedish movies ends with calling the audience a “slut” (the end)…
winrar.
No, they don’t. In Scandinavia we usually don’t need to be told when to exit the cinema, you see.
That is true.
However, people should take a look in Swedish Disney magazines and pocketbooks. All storys end with a SLUT!
Yeah. That’s why we Swedes grow up to have so much fun!
LOL! I never tried pronouncing that like English. Hah! Wonderful.
And “REA” in Spanish means something similar tu Slut. Incredible.
A lot of Swedish stores have “Slut rea” =P
And meanwhile “sale” in French means “dirty” in English. So not just any slut, but a DIRTY slut!
Good thing she’s squinting!
Perhaps she’s squirting.
What I love even more than the pictures on this site is learning random tid-bits of information. Cheers Dan
This is actually there to mark the one spot in the store where all girls must momentarily act like sluts.
It’s Romanian, rea (feminine) and rău (masculine) mean bad/bad-ass smth like that.
or not. it’s swedish D:
Language identification fail.
Haha That’s really funny! I’m from Sweden and “Slut” = “The End” or just “End”.
The SPURT is willing, but the SLUT is weak.
Rosetta Stone was never this fun.
That’s because she never put out like a Nordic chick.
SO its not an expert slut then.
It works the other way too. In Australia they have a lottery called ‘Slik Pik’ which means cock suck in Danish.
Amusing, untl i realized that it as in my native launage, danish, it means “the sale ends soon” kinda.
Actually, REA is short for “realisation”, not “reducerat”.
I think this is in Forum Nacka – Stockholm

Swenglish makes funny. That’s the way it is.
Well im swedish and i think this so cold “cleverness” is just fucking
stupid.
Nothing funny or wtf about this piece of shit.
I hate it when people claims something as Engrish when it really isn’t. Laaame.
Last I checked this isn’t the Engrish site?
You’re going to use a hyphen for your married name? Maybe you should rethink that before you get into modeling.
Lol I live in Malmö, Sweden. Are we making it to the world map now?
Everybody know that Skåne isn´t actually Sweden. It would be like calling Wales a part of England.
As already mentioned, slut means “end” or “finishing”.

This is danish…
Actually, it’s Swedish as it’s taken in Malmø, but the meaning is the same – and I still think it’s funny if you think of what “slut” really means.
Never forget the Swedish fladdermöss, or fluttermouses… And dammsugare, dust suckers :O Along many others.
Surprised nobody has offered the obvious English translation of “slut spurt”: Clearance. Items that are being sold at low prices to clear room for more inventory.
An american friend reacted to the sign “Bad Sport Motion” at the local pool. Translation from Swedish:
Bad = Bath or swimming
Sport = Sport
Motion = Exercise
Wait, if everybody knows there nothing wrong with this, then why is it getting so many thumbs up?
To my surprise it is in the Urban Dictionary.
“Slut Spurt:
Sporadic period of heightened sexual activity conducted by a girl who fluctuates between abstinence and sluttiness. This girl may often imply that she is a virgin when she is dormant.
Mike: Oh my God, did you hear that Kelsey just got it on with five guys this week?
John: Yeah, sounds like she’s in the midst of a slut spurt.”
My favourite Swenglish is “Farthinder”. Meaning speed bump.
which is “fartsdump” in norwegian.
Weakling. =3=
Also, ‘caught’ is prenounced in exactly the same way as the Norwegian word ‘kåt’ which means ‘horny’. That’s given more than one kid a giggle in English class.
oops wrong emoticon! *
