  1. KZN02 says:

Maybe you’re supposed to convert the number into a different unit of speed?

  2. Sarah says:

    “How is that possible?”

It’s easily possible. Speed doesn’t jump up in whole unit increments as you accelerate. Unusual speed limits are designed to get peoples’ attention more than anything.

  3. Fabian Egopants says:

don’t the “7 1/2″ speed limit signs out there “beat” this?

    • NorthernTerror says:

(blink) Oh my f#$%ing god. Just when I think I’ve grasped the average intelligence of the population, I’m shown something that lowers the bar again…
Have any of the cretins who put those signs up even *heard* of instrumentation error? Most speedometers can’t even register speeds under 10.

  4. patmandu says:

This one’s a no-brainer. It’s the posted speed for the sidewalk. If your stroller only does 9 or 10 mph, then get the fuck out of the way.

  5. lol says:

Um, you know, 1 Mile is like 1,609.344 kilometers, how is _this_ possible? duh

  6. nate says:

Mad Hatter is doing road signs now? The Rabbit would approve.

  7. Kayt says:

Ahh, Highlands Ranch, you crazy people. I grew up there, and that shopping center isn’t the only spot they have bizarre speed limits.

They’ve been doing it for years I took that pic about five years ago, same city, different spot. I’m 90% sure they’re just messing with people.

  8. thudbucket says:

All things are possible through the glory of Photoshop.

    • Kayt says:

I can totally promise you, it’s not Photoshopped. It’s true municipal insanit

      • Anna Rexia says:

Soooo, they repainted the lower portion of the sign at a later date? The numbers are darker than the text. I’m aware that there are places that put up weird numbers, eg, a speed limit of 7, but I still think this one looks shopped.

  9. maven2k says:

The speed limit in my mom’s boss’ neighbor hood was 12 1/2, but it was a private road. This is a real municipal sign which is even more ridiculous.

  10. Tom Sawyer says:

If you’re busted for speeding, they round the half up. If you’re going 36, you’re ticketed for 14 over even tho you’re only 13.5 over.

More revenue generation for the city via the police force. Remember when cops were supposed to protect and serve?

  11. Bucky says:

This town’s entire economy is based solely on speeding tickets.

    • stevie w says:

The whole COUNTYRY’s economy is based on speeding tickets.
And government grants ….and bail outs ….and social security, medicaid , medicare ….

  12. Demetrius says:

This makes perfect sense because 22 is WAY too slow. And, 23 is CRAZY fast!

  13. mick says:

I say this is a committee decision. One bureaucrat says the limit should be 20, another says 25. A few short weeks of arguing later: “let’s compromise”.

  14. Otherjohn says:

I drove a Saturn that had the speedometer marked in 2.5 mph increments. 22.5 mph speed limit? No problem.

  15. amocksun says:

We had one in my town that was 8 1/2!

  16. Blitz says:

If it is private property, like a shopping mall parking lot, you can sign whatever the hell you want (depending on the state). I’ve seen some strange speed limits in parking lots, eg. 7mph, which is impossible to judge on many cars. You can’t be cited for speeding on private property in these states, although you can be cited for reckless driving, I believe.

Even odds that whoever posted this sign just did it to draw attention to the speed limit. It worked, I guess.

  17. James Welch says:

This must be in england. God damned brits with their god damned idiocities.

  18. Mike says:

Actually, I tend to think that the speed limit on that road used to be 45mph and some committeeman said it needed to be cut in half, the motion was seconded and carried. And the 22.5mph limit was born.

  19. rolo says:

These are 30 km/h in mile/hr. problem solved

  20. lol says:

    Catch 22. (and a half) :-)

  21. Mary says:

It looks like the road used to be 45 mph and some genius in a corner office decided to tell his possy of engineers to “halve” the speed of the road (thinking that maybe they would make it 20 or 25). 1/2 of 45 is 22.5, so maybe a smart-alek civil engineer just literally slashed the speed in half.

  22. Carnage says:

    I second that.

  23. Anna Rexia says:

Hover your mouse over the picture and look at the URL.

  24. Malisyn says:

No worries, I’m sure it will resurface there within the next couple of weeks. Joy.
