    I’ll take a guess…

“Young boy escapes rock-breaking prison by disguising self in blackface and enlisting the aid of a wookie by marrying it (see ring finger)”

Am I close? If not, who will buy that story line instead of resurrecting movies already done, Hollywood?

    Anyone?!
    :)

i think the furry guy is real person with a very rare skin/hair disease. looks like this photo was taken a long time ago when freaks were showcased at circuses.

Uhm, no. That’s a costume. And the young man is wearing blackface. Still I’m very curious as to where this photo came from and what is was about. I’ve never heard of a silient film that featured bigfoot.

It’s an ancient European tradition. The guy in black is a ‘Black Casper’ or ‘Schmutzli’ and symbolizes the devil, they guy in Woki-outfit is some kind of wild man, these are ancient pre-Celtic and pre-Germanic traditions. During the period before the soltice people used to dress like this to scare their neighbours. Many if these traditions have changed into more cheesy forms like ‘Sinterklaas’ (yes, Santa Claus, but the Dutch version) the black guy is now “Swarte Piet”…

If there are no trees to climb, try disguising yourself with soot to avoid a pedobear attack.

I’m fairly certain this is a picture from the Bilmawn celebration (I’m not sure that’s quite the right word to use, perhaps ‘play’ might be a better choice, or ‘tradition’, ‘festival’) that’s conducted in towns in Maghreb. The event is Muslim, but it seems more of an element of local culture flavored with Islamic elements than any large-scale event in the Islamic world. I remember learning a lot about it for a class, but I can’t find the book on it. The Wookie-looking thing is Bilmawn, this mischevious, lewd character that ‘terrorizes’ a town with his antics. While the black-faced character does play a slave, it’s not black-face in the American sense. I think the soot (which is used to create the black-face) is more meant to represent status than be a representation of skin color. The book that describes this ceremony is “The Victim and its Masks: an essay on sacrifice and masquerade in the Maghreb” By Abdellah Hammoudi

    (Australians will get this one….)

Han and Chewie make a guest appearance on Hey Hey Its Saturday.

  20. Raeyn says:

And how does the object “hanging out” of the guy’s coat tie in to said festival?

  21. Midget Pie says:

Actually it’s Chewbacca’s great-great-great-great-great grandfather who secretly visited Earth during the 19th century!

  22. rowanne says:

i feel like not enough people figured out the “hanging out” aspect of this photo.
