I’m betting a hundred bucks I know where this is: Pécs, Hungary, near the Cathedral.
It’s for lovers, who put on a padlock to symbolize their love. The store nearby makes a mint selling padlocks…
There are actually two fences, within a 100 meters of one another, as the first one got overloaded. Mere months after the second one was opened, it was chock full of padlocks too.
Ironically, the gate is actually unlocked. When it is locked… it is only held closed by one lock. The true theft deterrent is trying to figure out which one.
Yet another weird custom in Japan. Couples believe if they attach a lock to the railing at a certain park then their love would be bonded forever. So we end up with the picture above.
This is actually a bridge in Rome. It’s where lovers can carve their names into the locks, and attach them to the bridge before throwing the keys into the river.
You write a wish/the name of your love on the lock and attach it to the gate/fence so the love will hold as long as you live/the fence is standing there.
This is probably a picture from Ponte Milvio in Rome, Italy. You write the initials of you and the one you love on the lock. You lock it onto the bridge (theres grates and poles and whatnot that you can lock it to on there) and then you toss the key into the Tiber River. It’s actually really romantic. There’s people’s initials and “te amo…” everywhere and a bunch of couples.
It’s actually a love declaration. Every lock has the names of a couple who wanted their love to be eternal. Sweet isn’t it. I’ve seen a couple of these gate’s in Pecs, Hungary.
omg! this is in my hometown (Pécs, Hungary)! lovers put lockets on this gate, and write their names on it, so their love will last forever
and opening the gate would be pointless, cause there’s only a concrete wall behind it
This gate is in Hungary,Pécs
These locks are “love locks” It symbolizes the love with you’re partner “as long as the lock are locked, our love will hold”
not a gate, fencing either on/under a bridge in Florence, The Ponte Vecchio, if I remember rightly, could possibly be in Russia, also practiced there. The locks are all actually written on, as a declaration of love for said lover, e.g. A.H + D.E
Akshully, this is a wedding ritual. I have seen it in Latvia. On their wedding day, the couple will put a lock somewhere (usually on a bridge) to “solidify” their union… Obviously this is a popular spot!!!!
Awesome! I took a picture like this in Korea – the way I understand it, couples will put a lock somewhere on the fences/railings/etc to “lock” their love in. It’s like a wish! I thought it was really fun.
This is in Pécs, Hungary. I’ve seen it a hundred times. And the other one, too which is a few steps away. It is not even a gate, it is just some railing to fence off a corner formed by two buildings. It was originally put there to stop people from peeing in the corner. Then one day a couple placed two padlocks on it, and soon after it was full of padlocks. You probably couldn’t remove yours even if you had the key, as it is so interwoven with other padclocks.
The “lock our love” thing must be popular all over the world. We have a town here in Nevada called Lovelock, and there is one of these there as well. Not quite as many mind you, but same concept.
is this from that lover’s bridge in france ?
ownage.
Is it at Pécs in Hungary? I’ve been there.
@JustAGuyOnTheNet
I think it is.

you’ll need a bucket for all those keys
I feel sorry for the guy who has to open it.. xD
“I don’t care if you forgot your purse again, we’re already late enough!”

Call the locksmith!
or the keymaster, whichever works.
To open gate, detonate large amount of explosive.
You could also noclip.
Nah, forget explosives.; a largish quantity of thermite will do the job!
This is how I guard my cookies.
it is the gate to this yard

It’s cool how the same tradition seems to be being practised all over the world

This is indeed in Hungary, Pécs.

Cultural Capitol of Europe
Isn’t there some significance to all those locks? like it’s for married couples?
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!!!!!
Try unlocking that, robbers!
imagine all of them locked and the you need to use the only bathroom in the area and it’s past that door….

I’ve been looking for my lock for years now. Oh! There you are.
Indeed it is.
so what do you do if you get a divorce? :$
