This reminds me of a guy who has many girlfriends at the same time.
I need someone to explain this to me. Tunnels are really expensive to build. Why would anyone build multiple tunnels at the same spot? Sorry if I’m being a nitwit…
I think that the tunnel actually turns around inside the mountain… There was one just like this when I was in Norway.
Indeed it does, see my link further down. It’s in Northern Italy near the Swiss border, I believe.
you mean the one that does a 900° turn inside the mountain? i’ve been there too!
They are switchbacks
Well, you see, Sharlene, there is an obvious problem concerning height in this particular situation. Therefore, the locals, whom believed this mountain too steep for a direct aproach, decided to try for a zig-zag road up the mountain. There was, however, a problem, there was a lot of rock in the way to make a good zig-zagging road. This created the need for a set of tunnels, namely the ones seen in the photograph.
Or you can reference to the videogame Portal, in which case: The Cake Is Not A Lie, I’ve Seen It.
i’ve played that. I WANT THAT CAKE!
First you must be baked, then there will be cake.
Is it strange that I read the title in the voice of that one Scottish stereotype from the oil commercials?
Kind of odd…but now I can’t get the voice out my head and all my thoughts are in a Scottish stereotype voice 0___0
Anyone know where this is?
This is Dun Algaz: the path from Loch Modan to Wetlands.
that is exactly what I thought of!
Same here!
M.C. Escher would be proud!
He would
maybe add a few more birds/fish to the picture and it would be totally his style lol.
In final version of Portal 2 we change the Excursion Funnel to something more “realistic”! Expect flying sheeps!
Did someone say . . . “Flying sheep”????
It looks a tiny bit like the Stelvio Pass:
http://www.thengs.org/blog/stelvio.jpg
Named by Top Gear as the best driving road in the world, completely defies physics.
I could follow that for maybe a quarter mile in the pic b4 i got REALLY confused…
hey does anyone actually know where this is? i guessing switzerland
Odd… looks like the tunnels are switchbacks, aren’t they? Very very odd…
Stelvio Pass is almost entirely made up of switchbacks, but I don’t recall any tunnels.
I think this is Paso de Gavia, I don’t remember any switchback dug into the mountains at Stelvio, but I could be wrong, I am incorrect quite often. Here is a photo of the 4 switchback-tunnels, but from a different angle:

It is from the page below. Pretty darned awesome if you ask me.
An acquaintance has a page of several “good rides” she has taken in the past, with many photos, including one of Stelvia taken from near the top.

Those roads around there are amazing. The San Bernadino Pass is another triumph of road building.
Hehe, portals.
But yes, the switchbacks need tunnels because the valley is probably otherwise too narrow to allow the proper slope to the road. That and the huge gaps in the valley floor. Those might be an issue.
Hey! Those look like Apple customers.
I was thinking Windows customers myself. LOL
I use Windows, OSX and Linux, and no one of them are better than the other. You know the old saying, use the right tool for the job. (example, unless you are realllly good with security, never use a windows based server unless it is behind a dedicated linux or other hardware firewall. OSX is almost as good as must unixes, since it’s BSD+NeXT, but it won’t run on all hardware without a lot of work. To assuage the PC vs Apple crowd, I have to say I’ve had little problem with most versions of either system (Don’t ask about the first releases of Vista, or I’ll have nightmares! lol) on any platform.
What does any of this have to do with that very lovey photo of the tunnels of Gavia pass? Not much. I could comment that Hannibal would have had a heck of a time herding his elephants through there, had these tunnels been around then.
oops
lovey=lovely
maybe line tower wars?
I’d say this was a triumph A huge sheep herding success. It’s hard to overstate how well they pulled this off.
Portal reference aside, I spent several summers earning beer money by working on a few local farms. Sheep, goat and cattle herding is no small feat by *any* means. I doubt GlaDOS would have been able to do it, she would just promise them cake and lead them to the incinerator…..
ps the cake is a lie
I think I saw this in 12 Monkeys. That’s the sequel to Ocean’s 11, right?
Pretty much. lol
I note that a few of his flock seem to have stopped for a snack….
It’s Passo San Boldo in Italy, have a look here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/apolide/687434303/
Indeed it’s Passo San Boldo, Italy. Here you’ll find the source photo.

I feel sorry for the car stuck behind that lot
It’s not a truck you can put something into – it’s a series of tubes….
Oooh! Grass!!
O.O
The baa’s of the sheep must sound like vuvuzela’s, there are so many ><
Wow I found this very interesting!
