  1. Torri says:

This ain’t no Mandolin, this is the new “Cheese Grater for Mad Musicians”!

  2. Torri says:

Also works great for slicing sausages, or fingers if the musician is too drunk or stoned to try to play this model.

  3. D-R says:

How on Earth can anyone play that thing, when all the strings look like they run across each other? It must be hell on your fingers.

  4. ZBag says:

    Metheney’s Pikasso.

  5. Dances With Dingo says:

That ain’t no mando either. Mandolin=8 strings. Guitar=6 or 12 strings.

  6. Jesper says:

That’s the 42-stringed Pikasso Guitar, technically a kind of harp guitar, created by Linda Manzer. Pat Metheny plays it.

  7. Led Zeppelin Fan says:

Looks like John Paul Jones’s special instrument.

  8. spaceship says:

actually Pat Metheny uses that guitar

  9. JFM says:

It’s a 42-string guitar called the Pikasso. Youtube has several (live) videos with Pat Metheny playing it. Just search for pikasso + metheny.

  10. Twili says:

I’ve actually seen that somewhere – it was a list of over the top guitars. Only acoustic on the list- all the others were custom-paint job electrics, or even triple-neck electrics.

And as said before, this isn’t a mando. It’s mostly guitars, and I have no idea what those 13 strings on the side are. Some sort of harp?

  11. BatMessiah says:

That guitar was designed and is played by the famous musician Pat Metheny.

  13. Black says:

That critter is owned by Pat Metheny. It is the Manzer Pikasso II
    .

  14. vampiresquirrel says:

“Children, this is what it looks like when siblings decide to have kids with eachother.”

  15. A pedant says:

All the headstocks have 12 strings. Mandolins have either 8 or 10 strings.

    Signed, a pedant.

  16. Adam says:

This is actually a “guitar” that pat metheny uses. It’s called the picasso guitar simly because it’s inspiered of a picasso picture.

  17. William Howard Taft says:

I remember seeing a man play this on youtube, it was a pretty good performance. Kind of experimental 80′s fooling, but I can’t for the life of me remember the specific video.

  18. Babalon says:

This is a custom-made version of what is known as a “Harp Guitar”. Obviously, the different fretboards are not meant to be played simultaneously, but alternately. The tuning of the different fretboards acts as a harmonic device that lends amazing overtones. They are incredible sounding. ~B~

  19. Fragbert says:

It’s a Pikasso 42-string guitar played by jazz musician Pat Metheny.

  20. HanoFist says:

I’m reminded of Diego Stocco’s Experibass

  21. Simonedi says:

wasnt there something like this done in cg by animusic where it plays itself?

  22. Bucky says:

    Swiss Guitarmy Knife

  23. mason says:

    they found chuck Norris’s guitar!!

  24. postl1terat1 says:

The 6-string guitar neck is a baritone (of which Metheny is also a master), and the Pikasso is a logical extension of the hybrid instruments that cropped up about a hundred years ago (banjitars, banjolins, ukelins, harp guitars, 12-strings, and all kinds of instrumental miscegenations). Of course, if they’d had CGI, nobody would have bothered.

  25. Bug says:

I saw him play it in concert z0MG!!!

    … Very beautiful n_n

  26. bigdrew says:
