Don’t let George Lucas know you have this picture. After all the trouble he went to to obliterate the SW xmas special…. Expect a knock at the door from a pair of stormtroopers.
Isn’t that a still from the infamous Star Wars Christmas Special?
I fondly remember downloading it (very very slowly) from some P2P-Service and then watching it in all its grainy, washed-out, low-res glory, only to find the plot to be abysmally bad.
Yep, that’s what it’s from… I saw it when it was first aired in 1978, abysmal doesnt even come close. The only memorable thing was the animated short that first introduced the world to Boba Fett.
I work for a radio network in 2000 and we interviewed Carie Fisher.
During the show, we played her song “Life Day” and she didn’t recognize it.
She said she has no memory of even making the show!
I watched it with Riff tracks in the background, and it was probably the only way I could watch it. Being an avid Star Wars fan, I wanted to stab my eyes out after seeing it.
that whole movie was wtf, beggining to end, not in a good way. I hear lucas actually didnt direct it, might not have actually had anything to do with it. part of a studio contract to do an x-mas special, the cast was obligated and lucas didnt know how bad it was….still no excuse for jar jar tough
Maybe, but he didn’t “do” the original trilogy either. He only wrote and directed “Star Wars: A New Hope”.
For “The Empire Strikes Back” however, his only credits are Executive Producer (which means he made enough money off the first one to pay for the second one) and “Story by” (which doesn’t necessarily mean he actually wrote it. It could just mean that they used his characters and universe. It was written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, Directed by Irvin Kershner.
“Return of the Jedi” also gives Lucas credit for “Executive Producer” and “Story by”, but this time he co-wrote as well. Lawrence Kasdan returned to co-write (and say “no George, that’s stupid”) while Richard Marquand Directed.
Notice how movies get better as Lucas has less involvement in them?
Aaaahhhh, Grampa Itchy, little Lumpy, and Chewie’s wife Malla. (I actually named my Chow after Malla . . . . )
Yes, it was THAT BAD. It was filmed right after Mark Hamill had his accident so he had the worst make-up job ever in his little clip. Two hours of grunting Wookiees, horrible ’70′s guest appearances, and yes, Carrie Fisher SANG the Star Wars Theme in honor of Chewie’s Life Day. You have to love e-Bay; Labar Day is a great day to get drunk and watch it again.
I am so sick of Star Wars stuff on these sites. Get over it already. Hahaha it’s a wookie. Oh look a sexy female Boba Fett. Admiral Ackbar ‘It’s a trap’ pun woo! Who gives a frickin’ frick. Star Wars is LAME and the jokes were NEVER FUNNY.

I watched it live. It was awful. Please don’t remind me of it again.
Oh, c’mon! Who didn’t love Bea Arthur’s singing, or Diane Carroll putting the moves on Itchy!? And then there’s that catchy tune Carrie Fisher sang…
It was impressive how Carrie Fisher could manage to carry a tune while coked out of her skull, wasn’t it?

nuff said.
Amy Winehouse can carry a tune? When did this happen?!

And Harvey Corman at his best!

Was it honestly THAT bad?
it was worse.
There’s a reason Lucas tried so hard to obliterate any possible trace of its existence.
Looks like he failed though. Found it on youtube.
It was SO bad, I’m surprised the actors could look each other in the face when they started filming Empire Strikes Back.

What do you get a wookie for Life Day when he’s already got a comb?

I might agree with you if it weren’t the Star Wars Holiday Special. It is the definition of WTF.
Did anyone else catch Ford on Conan a few years ago? Conan brought up the SWHS, asked Ford if he remembered it, and Ford had a look of terror! LOL
…I don’t see Graham Parker anywhere.
